Use Your Resources Wisely

I found this inspiration to use our resources wisely on the Faithful Provisions Website

Luke 12:22-24
“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! ”

Great is Thy Faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Target Deals

I went to Target last night since I knew that I would be snowed in for the next few days,  Here are a few of the deals that I found.  They aren't the best but they are worth picking up if you are already there.

This Gerber two pack of blanket sleepers was marked on Clearance for $4.99.  I picked it up for Lucas for next Christmas.  When I got home and checked my receipt it was actaully 50% off of that price so it was $2.48.  Since there were two in the pack, I paid $1.24 for each pajama!

I think I will go back again when the snow clears and grab a few more in different sizes.  This was at the Target in Manalapan, NJ.

Free Dannon Light and Fit Yogurt at ShopRite

Tomorrow (Wed) there will be free Dannon Light and Fit Yogur at ShopRite.

The 4 pack of Light and Fit yogurt is on sale for 99 cents.

There is a printable coupon for 50 cents off of one 4 pack.  When the coupon is doubled it makes the yogurt free.

There is also a coupon for $0.40/1 in the 1/2 SS.  This would double to make the yogurt 20 cents.

So how did I do it?

So how did I get all of this stuff for just pennies?  I will try to break it down.

1.  Everything was purchased at ShopRite.

2.  You need to start saving the coupon circulars from your Sunday paper if you are going to get the best deals.  It is even best to have more than one set.  I have my mom give me hers when she has taken what she needs and I get one delivered in the Star Ledger.  If the deals are really great I will buy and extra paper on Sunday too.

3.  You need to have a working printer with your computer.  Many of the coupons are printables from the internet.

4. You need to know the following terminology...

Catalina- a coupon that prints out from the register at the end of your purchase.  It is usually a $ off coupon that can be used on future purchases

SS- an abbreviation for Smart Source, a circular from the Sunday paper

RP- an abbreviation for Red Plum, a circular from the Sunday paper

P&G- an abbreviation for Proctor & Gable, a circular from the Sunday paper

Coupon Doubling- stores like ShopRite doubles their coupons up to 75 cents.  For example, if you use a 75 cent coupon you will get $1.50 off.

money maker- is when you get Catalinas back that are worth more than what you paid for the item.

5.  Here are the coupons I used...

*The Pennsylvania Dutch noodles are on sale for 99 cents.  You can go to THIS WEBSITE to print out $1.00 off coupons which will make the noodles free.  I was able to print out three so I was able to get three packages of noodles.

*The Fantastik ends up being a money maker.  You need to buy the Fantastick with Scrubbing bubbles.  It is on sale for $1.99. You need to use 3 coupons worth $0.75/1 Scrubbing Bubbles from the 1/9 SS.  The coupons double to 1.50 off each. This makes the total spent $1.47.  A $2.00 off your next purchase will print at the end since you bought three Scrubbing Bubbles products.  After getting the $2.00 Catalina coupon back, you just made 53 cents!

*The French’s Spicy Brown Mustard  is on sale for $1.79.  If you use the $0.75/1 from the 1/23 SS.  The coupon doubles to $1.50 off and you end up paying 29 cents.

*The Campbell's soup is on sale for 40 cents each for the Chicken Noodle and Tomato varieties.  Buy three cans and  use $0.40/3 Campbell’s Condensed Soup, exp. 3-15-11 (SS 01/02/11).  The coupon will double to 80 cents off which means you pay 40 cents for three cans of soup!

*The Old Spice Bodywash was free with the Buy a deodorant and get a body wash free coupon from the P&G circular.  The deodorant was on sale for $2.09 and I had a $1.00 off coupon which made the deodorant $1.09 and the bodywash FREE.

You can do this for yourself.  It is really not that complicated.  It gets easier everytime you try it.  You need to frequent websites like http://www.livingrichwithcoupons.com/  Sites like this break everything down for tons of stores.  Give it a try and let me know if you tried it.

Monday, January 24, 2011

What can you buy for 36 cents?

If you are me, then the answer is.....

I bought everything at ShopRite today.

The noodles were free.
The soup was 40 cents for all three.
The bodywash was free.
The mustard was 49 cents.
The Fantastik was actually less than free. I made 53 cents by "buying" three.

Listia.com "Give and Get Free Stuff"

One of my favorite websites is Listia.com

Their philiosophy is simple "Give and Get Free Stuff."

Here is how it works.  When you join the site they will give you free credits.  You use those credits to purchase items that are listed by others.  You earn credits by "selling" items that you don't need.  It is kind of an Ebay but without the money.

For example, I purchase cases of Coke.  They come with Coke Rewards points.  I don't use the points so I list the code on Listia for "sale".  People bid on the auction with their credits.  The highest bidder wins and I email them the code.  I get to keep the credits.

I have "sold" enough of them on Listia to save up my credits to get a FREE   $30 Target gift card!

Give the site a try and get tons of free stuff plus you can unload some of those things you don't need anymore.

Smart Phone Bargain Hunting

Today's blog post was suggested by my husband Aaron.  He has jumped on the bargain hunting bandwagon.

Aaron has found an app for his iphone (works for any smartphone) that helps you search for the best prices in your area.

It is a FREE app called RedLaser from Occipital.  You use your smartphone camera to scan UPC codes from items.  After scanning the item your phone will tell you what item you scanned and the best prices tat can be found online and in your local area.

We tried it with a box of Children's Claritan.  Aaron loaded the app and scanned the UPC code on the box. The app that told him what item he scanned and the best prices that could be found.

This is what came up...

 scanning the UPC code

The results that came up.

The app told us that the best price could be found at Target locally and at Facevaluesonline.com online.

Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!

Matthew 7:12

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. -Matthew 7:12

I didn't make any resolutions this year since resolutions are so often broken before January even ends.  Instead I made it a goal to live by this verse.  I plan to live this tangibly by using my coupon tips to help others.

My church, Sayrewoods Bible Church, has a food bin ministry that exists to help those in need.  The people that volunteer in this ministry have been helping people in the Old Bridge community for years.  Even though I have been attending the church for almost 20 years I am ashamed to say that I never really noticed the ministry and never thought much about the people that were being serviced.  It took me losing my job to realize that many of us are a few paychecks or even just one paycheck away from needing the help of a ministry like this.

We are at a place in our family where we aren't financially able to give more than our tithe each week but I have a gift for getting free or low cost items.  I can and need to use that gift to help others.  I have made it my goal to drop off items to the food bin as much as I can.

Take the time in this new year to look for opportunities where you can donate to others.  This can be a monetary or physical donation but it can also be a donation of your time!

Carter's

This was not by greatest deal by far but still worth mentioning.  The Carter's store in Matawan, NJ is offering an extra 30% off of their clearance merchandise.  They have an enormous selection!

The regular price of my items would have been $67.00.  Outrageous and you will never see me go to Carter's and pay full price.  However, with the clearance price and the additional 30% off, I was able to get the items for $16.76.

 2 footie pajamas (regular price $20 each)- My price $4.19 each

outfit with long sleeve shirt and matching pants (regular price $17.00)- My price $5.59

pants (regular price $10.00)- My price $2.79

Lucas is growing like a weed so I need to find clothes for him in the next few sizes.  I am stubborn and will never pay full price.  The clothes I got today were in the 12 month size.  It is amazing how big he has gotten.

All You Magazine

All You Magazine is a must for any couponer.  The magazine is very inexpensive as far as magazines go.  It makes the claim "the magazine that pays for iteself."  I have found this true in every issue.  The magazine contains so many coupons that you easily make back what you paid for it plus their articles are also geared towards saving money too.

You can get two free trial issues at the All You Website  A subscription will cost you $1.99 per issue or you can pick up the magazine on the rack at Walmart.

Proverbs 31

Why use coupons?

In the book of Proverbs, the Bible describes a virtuous woman.  She is described as a woman who provides for her family, works hard and manages finances.  If coupons existed back in Biblical times, I am guessing that the virtuous woman would be a deal finder and coupon clipper.

Proverbs 31 NIV Translation
10 [b]A wife of noble character who can find?
   She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
   and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
   all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
   and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
   bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
   she provides food for her family
   and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
   out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
   her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
   and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
   and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
   and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
   for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
   she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
   where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
   and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
   she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
   and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
   and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
   her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
   but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
   but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
   and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Today's Amazing Deal

Today's amazing deal was at CVS.    In order for you to get this deal you need to have the coupon circulars from the Sunday paper.  I use the Star Ledger.  I get a subscription which includes Thursdays and Sundays only.

To complete this deal, you will need two Crest coupons for $1.00 off a toothpaste.   You can find one in today's P & G (Proctor & Gable) insert and the P & G insert from 12/26.  I save my coupons each week in a file box sorted by the date they were in the paper.  In future posts I will explain in detail my coupon system.

At CVS, the Crest is on sale for $2.99 each.  When you purchase the Crest you will receive a $2.00 off coupon for your next purchase.  This brings the cost down to .99 cents.   After applying your $1.00 off coupon to each toothpaste, your toothpaste is free.  Some CVS stores will even take off the whole dollar and you end up making a penny on each toothpaste!

Today's Amazing Deal

Today's amazing deal was found at the Goodwill Thrift Store on Route 18 in East Brunswick, NJ.  I had never been to a thrift store before but I heard from my sister in law that there were some really great bargains there.  I was amazed at the selection of clothes that they offered but did not have the time (since I has the baby with me) to sort through all of the racks.  It was convenient that they had everything sorted by color but it would still be time consuming to find the right size.

The amazing deal I found was in the movie section.  All VHS tapes were on sale for 25 cents each.  (Yes, we still have a VCR)  For the grand total of $1.61, I was able to purchase

Toy Story

Beauty in the Beast

Snow White ane the Seven Dwarves

Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas

Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World

Baby Einstein: Baby Bach

Give a thrift store a chance. They even have a frequent shopper card that gives you $10 back when you spend $100.   To look for a Goodwill store near you, click on THIS link.

I am finally giving in and starting my own blog.  It seems like everyone has one these days.  I know- I am such a follower.  I have decided that my blog will be primarily dedicated to the deals that I find while I am shopping each week.  Be patient with me as I try to figure out how to post websites and links on here.  Thanks for reading!
